Nearly 3,000 pieces of plush, custom-designed furniture now fill WSI’s terminal, thanks to Gosford-based, family-owned company, Burgtec. The aim, to make customers feel like they are relaxing in a private lounge.
Already touted as possibly “the ultimate democratisation of air travel,” Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport (WSI) is delivering premium comfort to every traveller from check in through to its 13 international and domestic gates.
Built for round-the-clock use at Sydney’s only 24-hour airport, the furniture blends durability with luxury. Earthy tones – ochre, eucalyptus green, and warm browns – echo the region’s natural palette across chairs, stools, tables, and lounges.
Along with welcoming aesthetics, function meets form and convenience at WSI, with access to power outlets everywhere passengers can power up when and where it suits them best.
800 bespoke pieces throughout the airport were hand-crafted locally at Burgtec’s Berkeley Vale factory – a standout orange kidney-shaped couch with integrated back support, plus armchairs, ottomans, dining tables, and coffee tables. Another 2,200 items were also sourced from other manufacturers by the Burgtec team and supplied to WSI.
WSI will open in late 2026, giving Sydney a 24-hour domestic, international, and cargo gateway – placing the city on par with global hubs. WSI will boost Sydney’s aviation capacity, unlocking more slots during peak periods to create new opportunities for businesses and workers right across the state.
