Today, Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport (WSI) officially launched its second Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP), reaffirming its commitment to connecting Australians and visitors from around the world to Australia's First Nations cultures.
To date, WSI has created significant opportunities for people and communities in Western Sydney, with a strong focus on First Nations peoples and businesses.
WSI’s first Innovate RAP, launched in 2022 significant opportunities have been created for people and communities in Western Sydney, including First Nations peoples and businesses. Since then, WSI has exceeded its Indigenous workforce target of 2.4%, reaching 2.72% by June 2024, and surpassed its 3% target for contracts awarded to Indigenous businesses, reaching 7%.
WSI Chief Executive Officer Simon Hickey said that as the airport moves toward its 2026 opening, the team remain committed to amplifying First Nations cultures while delivering long-term economic and social opportunities.
"Our new RAP celebrates what we’ve achieved and sets a clear roadmap for what’s ahead as we approach our opening and 24/7 operations. Reconciliation is embedded in our design and engagement, and that same lens will guide our operations - ensuring First Nations cultures are celebrated as we grow together," Simon said.
