We can all agree that Sydney is the most beautiful city in the world, right? It doesn’t matter if you are new to cycling or kitted up in full lycra, riding around on carbon fibre - cycling is an amazing way to explore this magnificent city!
Whether you are looking for a solid cardio session or a simple leisurely ride with the kids, we’ve got you sorted with six of our favourite cycling routes in Western Sydney.
Prospect Loop Cycleway
Explore Western Sydney on a 35km sealed cycleway separated from the road. The Prospect Loop follows a lot of the Sydney water infrastructure and offers varied terrain and scenery, making it ideal for experienced and first-time riders. This long loop connects Guildford and Canley Vale on the Parramatta-Liverpool train line and takes you as far as Abbotsbury.
Knapsack XC, Glenbrook
Feel like getting a little bit of dirt under the wheels? With over 15km of rideable trails, Knapsack XC in Glenbrook is the perfect place to hone your technical skills on a mountain bike. With several kilometres of singletrack, including a black-diamond downhill trail for the more adventurous, Knapsack is a great place to strap on the knee pads and work up a sweat! Be sure to bring your phone with you as the signage is minimal and if you’re new to the area you can get a bit lost.
Olympic Park Circuit
With over 35km of cycle paths for safe bike riding, the Sydney Olympic Park Circuit is the perfect place for cyclists of all skill levels. We would recommend checking out the popular 7.5km Olympic Circuit and relive memories of the Sydney Olympic Games by taking a journey past iconic venues such as the (now named) ANZ Stadium, the Olympic Cauldron, Cathy Freeman Park and the Games Memories poles installation.
The Woodford - Oaks trail
For a ride that will work your muscles and clear your head while allowing you to take in the spectacular scenery, try the Woodford – Oaks trail in the Blue Mountains National Park. The track starts from Woodford and ends in Glenbrook and makes a great day out in the mountains for anyone looking for a heart pumping adventure and fresh mountain air.
The Northern Road Bike Path
This recently completed bike path starts at Penrith and finishes up 39km later at Narellan. With a clearly defined bike lane the entire journey and beautiful views of the Blue Mountains, this path is a perfect way to enjoy some pedal power. Why not stop in at a café in Luddenham for a coffee or our Western Sydney International Experience Centre on the way through too ?
Wylde Mountain Bike Park, Cecil Park
Tucked among the 5280 hectares of the spectacular Western Sydney Parklands, Wylde MTB trail is a great option for those who want to give the legs a workout. Wylde is an excellent place for a more relaxed ride, whether you are taking the kids out for the day to burn some energy or enjoying a solo ride. Unlike a track like Knapsack, the tracks at Wylde are lined with signage to point you towards easier and more difficult lines.
Wylde is currently closed due to a massive upgrade of the trails currently happening. It is due to re-open in August 2022.
